My name is Sunkist Judson. I am pursuing a master’s degree in Architecture at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
I have a long-term career goal to build sustainable buildings for the Karen refugees in Myanmar and Thailand.
WaTeRs
Our site is located next to the Platte River between Omaha and Lincoln near I80. Our project is to design a research station for water testing at the Platte River. This is a group project. My partner Brandon Jensen and I elevated the research station 25 feet above the ground level to avoid the flood from the river. A grass-covered berm surrounds the building on three sides, creating a horseshoe shape as well as introducing an interior courtyard with a retention pond that could be used for research if desired. The berm provides a natural camouflage to the building, as well as insulating those three sides from the elements of the Nebraska weather extremes. The berm also acts as a veil to improve the user’s experience. The research station revealing itself as people walking into the court from the main entrance through the tunnel. We separate the three programs; the labs, classrooms, and exhibitions to serve different user groups at different times.
Larsen Tractor Museum
Our site is located at the corner of 33rd St and East Campus Loop. The site has very good visibility thus become a sign or a doorway to the east campus. It can also be easily accessed by walking, biking, city bus, and cars. It is located less than half a mile from the existing museum and the splinter lab.
Our goal is to bring people together and create a gathering space for people to socialize and celebrate the machine. Social activity, machine, and produce are important to agricultural life. We want to capture those moments of celebration and human interaction, so we activated this green space for people to hang out, sell produce, while appreciating the history, admire the machine, and wonder what the future technology of agriculture would look like.

Mobile Clinic
According to U.S. News, there are 98 hospitals and healthcare facilities across the great State of Nebraska.1 Most of the hospitals are in the Eastern part of the state around metro areas. Omaha alone has 26 hospitals.2 People in the rural part of Nebraska do not have the privilege of accessing hospitals easily like people in the Lincoln or Omaha areas. Sometimes people must drive over an hour to get to a hospital, sometimes that can be costly and life-threatening. When natural disasters such as flooding, storms, or an extreme event, people from rural areas could be cut off from accessing the hospitals.
I propose to take healthcare to people. Mobile Clinics are one of the best ways to reach rural places in Nebraska. A truck can pull a clinic pod with a trailer and the healthcare providers could drive to western parts of Nebraska. Each pod can be configured in many different styles depending on the needs. The pod is 8 feet wide by 20 feet long and 10 feet high. A truck with a trailer could easily take one pod. A semi-truck could transport two pods, and a helicopter could fly two pods at a time. The cheapest option and the most effective method of transportation would be by transporting a pod on a trailer with a truck.
This would allow the physicians to drive out to the rural areas in Nebraska to do annual physical checks such as eye exams, dental exams, COVID-19 testing, or other no emergency exams. If the physicians detect something more serious then they can refer the patient to an appropriate hospital.
This Mobile Clinic could be potentially useful for nonprofit organizations such as The Doctors Without Border, American Red Cross, U.N. to use in other parts of the world.
